Like Mother, Like Daughter

I was in the bathroom getting dressed and walked into the bedroom to find her like this watching Elmo. Love the blank expression as if she's been nursing this baby all day and night:) Note the dishrag she got for a burp cloth!

When she realized I was watching her, she posed:)
If I have taught her nothing else in life, if she remembers me for no other thing that breastfeeding her, I will be okay with that. Surely no serial killers were breastfed???

I do hope she will be a great Mommy one day. A better Mommy than yours truly. I hope she knows how much I love her even when I look at the state of my boobs these days. As a side note, she cracked me up this week when I got out a new bra I had bought a while back and was taking the tags off to put it on. She knows what bras are but asked me "why" I wear a bra. I told her to keep my nurses in place! She said, "oh, in their garage?"

Firsts and Thirds

My camera has been MIA since I don't know when but after cleaning out my purse today, I found it! So maybe some pics soon instead of all this blah blah blah blah blah.

Today Maggie had her first dentist appointment. We added her to the dental coverage this time last year so my cheapness thought we should at least try to get her in this year since we've been paying for it:) The office was in Collierville (about 30 minutes away) and very nice and kid friendly. I had been playing dentist with her for a week and she always enjoys the dentist exhibit at the children's museum. And the fact that she asks us if she can brush her teeth gave me a semi confident feeling that we could at least get her to open her mouth.

She told me all morning she didn't want to go to the dentist, she wanted to go to storytime "first". Whenever she and I negotiate (which is all the time) I say "Mommy's boring/painful/stupid thing first" and "Maggie's awesome/exciting/fun thing second." Turn about is fair play.

But she did great which surprised even the dentist and hygienist:) Instead of a dental chair, it's just a regular exam table with a t.v. overhead. She didn't want to lay down and watch so they let her sit in my lap and the first thing they did was let her pick a new Dora toothbrush which really won her over. She showed them how she brushed and then the hygienist took a turn. The hygienist was pretty relaxed instead of trying to be Maggie's BFF which Maggie totally sees through. I feel like I have to preface each dr visit with "just do your job and don't try to talk to her and make nice" but that comes off kind of rude;)

It was really quick, just a look and a cleaning and fluoride. Well, I totally forgot about that and how gross it was and by that point, Maggie was wanting her toy they promised so the fluoride part was not that great but she did it! What a trooper! She got her little toy that is now on the floorboard of the van I think and we went to storytime and then napped together for 3 hours. I guess we were both exhausted!

Poor girl, I kept looking in the rear view mirror on the way to storytime and she was holding her mouth in a way that let me know she did NOT like the sticky/gross stuff in her mouth! But no cavities, just need to brush better in the back:)

And we are getting ready for Maggie's third Thanksgiving which always makes me pause and re-add since she's just 2, this is her 3rd everything this year. Che has a regular work day which to his company is the busiest day of the year almost along with Black Friday. So he's taking a long lunch to meet me at his sister's for lunch and then will try to make it home to eat dinner with my sister and Dad. I have the smaller house and less years vested in marriage, kids and cooking so I don't have to do much:) It's like the old days where the second son has to be a priest and isn't as important as the first son who gets all the inheritance. Well, I'm sure back then, the second daughter didn't have to host Turkey day and just got to bring side dishes:)

I am making 2 appetizers (one for Shannon's, one for Michelle's) and a banana pudding and broccoli casserole for Michelle's. I have never made a turkey in my life. And (shocker) our family wasn't big on Turkey. We usually had Ham which is unAmerican I guess. But we usually do a Turkey breast sitting wimpily next to our gigantic Ham.

Other than that, we are pretty booked up from here til New Year's. I have a Christmas party, a surgery, a ballet, a speech tournament, and a birthday for Che along with Christmas and stuff. Have a great holiday with your loved ones, or the people you are forced to sit at a table with and talk about giblets with for 3 hours:)

This and That

So everyone survived the topsy turvy 3 days this week while Michelle and Phil were away. Maggie didn't seem to miss home too much and the Halpin kids made it through without hardly a tear shed and no tantrums.

We made a trip to the Children's Museum and Pink Palace and had lunch out and managed to stay busy despite some rain and chilly days. It was very different spending so much time with boys. Boys seem so low maintenance compared to girls. Duh! Just throw some food at them and change their underwear every once in a while and they're fine.

Michelle was supposed to bring me back a Black and White Cookie but couldn't find one! So instead I got a kickin' cube of post-its with "I love Jim" on it from the Office. And some Frozen Hot Chocolate Mix-Yum!

It was an Office week I guess because my friend, Kelly, surprised me with a coffee mug that said "I'm having a nice day, don't screw it up" on it and some other funny Office goodies.

You gals have your Twilight saga, I have Jim and Pam.

I am cleaning today. This is my holiday cleaning that I do right before the Holidays so I can coast through til the New Year:) I rearranged our office a bit to make room for the life size cutouts of the cast of the Office. Just kidding. I did make room for some Christmas gifts Maggie is getting this year. I'm done shopping and I went shopping last week with my Mom for Maggie and did my Dad's shopping for him last night. I guess he doesn't know how to get to the Target:) Actually, he's super busy at work and doesn't get home til very late and works some weekends so he said to just go ahead and get a few things she'd like.

She is getting a kitchen from us and a "nursery center" from Papa. It's a one piece wooden thing (descriptive, I know) that she ALWAYS plays with in Target when we go. It's got a baby tub on one side and a crib on the other with a built in high chair on the end and a cabinet underneath for baby doll stuff. It is 100 bucks and I have watched and waited for weeks for this thing to go on sale and it finally did this week. The Internet is wrong! It's 79.99 in the store and although it's kind of big like a kitchen, I think she'll play with it for a long time! I'm so excited for her to get it.

Mom got her a Lite Bright and a baby doll that is sick and you make it better. It came with a cool baby doctor kit. I know she'll love it!

As for Thanksgiving, we may as well just skip it entirely since the local radio station started Monday playing Christmas songs:( That drives me nuts. I know they won't wait til Advent but sheesh, can we wait til after Turkey Day? And with Che's job and schedule, T-giving is a regular work day so he's going to take a long lunch and meet me at his sister's house for a quick visit and then dinner with my sister and Dad after work.

My Mom is moving to Cordova (closer to us than she was) the same weekend and is going to be roommates with a lady she met. Both are divorced and from Collierville so there's hours of conversation right there. She is waiting to hear if her job will become permanent so please remember that intention in your prayers!

I have my surgeries scheduled for Dec 8 and the next 6 weeks are getting booked up fast with holidays, Che's birthday, and this surgery and recovery. I am working more now since Baby B's Mom has pulled him out of his 2 day a week preschool to keep him at my house, closer to her and hopefully where he will be less sick all the time. Poor guy has had something or other since he started back in September! G is so good to us and is so flexible with our schedules and needs. So I am bumping from 2 days of work a week to 2 full and 2 half and that suits me fine. That's a bit more money and more time for Maggie to learn to share! We couldn't mange without G's patronage:)

Maggie is up so I gotta run. Have a good weekend!

Bloggy Giveaway

Happening over at Adam and Andrew. (click pick to take you to their blogspot) Very awesome Tot Clock up for grabs! I've read A and A since Maggie was a babe and these two boys are full of surprises after being born more than three months premature! Amost 3 now, they are little miracles.

Christmas Pics/3 Year Old Pics (or close enough)

We picked these up today and I'm pretty happy with them considering they were so inexpensive. Target has a coupon for no sitting fees and order whatever you want for 4 bucks a sheet.

They aren't really this dark but somehow look this way after we scanned.

I call these her "almost 3 year old" pictures:)

In the Meantime...

...I am at my sister's til Wednesday evening when they get back from a trip to NYC. Phil had business there and Michelle tagged along. They haven't been anywhere together since I lived with them in Virginia and they got away to Colonial Williamsburg one weekend. Emma was 4 I think and Jack was 2. I was in school and remember being utterly exhausted after keeping up with the two preschoolers! Hopefully I have more stamina now.

Che is home today and it's raining after 2 or 3 weeks of lovely un-fallish weather. It's been chilly in the morning but too warm for long sleeves mid day. But fall has returned this week with rain and overcast skies and highs in the 50's and 60's. So against my better judgement, and to keep the kids busy and entertained, we are going to the local Children's Musem (aka GERM FEST!) and praying for the best! Maggie and Liam really love it there but all I see is a doctor visit in the works.

We have just moved in for the next few days and Maggie will probaby think it's just a cool playdate that never ends. Michelle's house is much bigger than mine and I hope I can keep it picked up and clean! I hope nothing gets broken too. So I'll be back later in the week hopefully with some funny stories from these kids who know more than I do. I do not know how to work their tv, tivo, and whatever so the 9 year old is in charge:)

Have a good week!

Cut and Paste

At a local Trunk or Treat, we won a $25 gift card to Toys R Us! I've never won anything before and that was neat. Maggie had recently used a glue stick at a friend's house and made a jack o' lantern and was amazed at the magic of cut and paste. So I told her we could go buy our own. Maggie was shocked to learn that the big place with all the toys is not just to browse and play in the aisle but you could ACTUALLY take it home! She also got a little ice cream playset.

Here she is with the tools of the trade. My Dad has been calling her "Cut and Paste" and asks each night when he calls, "What's Cut and Paste been up to today?"

She was very serious about cutting and was a little awkward holding the scissors and doing the cutting but has improved a lot just after a few cut and paste sessions:)

Mostly, I give her long strips and let her cut them into small pieces then she glues them on. This is a big help when it comes to reusing the plain white paper she scribbles on, I mean draws on, instead of throwing it away.

Her first finished products (with a little help from Mommy) now grace our fridge. I'm sure all her friends and family can expect lots of homemade cards coming up. She also got a stamp set and inkpad and loves it! She's got quite the arts and crafts box going. And the best part is she can sit and do it by herself while I'm cooking or cleaning with minimal instruction! Yay!

Right on Top

I'm just posting today to share something I read on another blog. I always need this reminder, especially when facing (further) financial strains and health issues and trying to sort out my own "compartments".

Blair says it perfectly.
